How To Join

Boys:  To be eligible for membership in Troop 161, a boy must be at least 11 years old, or have completed the fifth grade, or have earned the Arrow of Light Award as a Webelos Scout. Boys who turn 18 years of age must register as adults.

Adults:  Membership in Troop 161 is open to all parents of youth members, members of our chartering organization (Bethel United Methodist Church), and other adults, 18 years of age or older, who are interested in serving the youth of our Troop.

Registration for Current Scouts:  For boys currently registered as Scouts (Cubs or Boy Scout transfers), complete an application form and meet with the Scoutmaster, who will receive your application together with a $1 transfer fee and a $1.60 insurance fee.

Registration for New Scouts:  If a boy is new to Scouting -- complete an application form and meet with the Scoutmaster, who will receive your joining fee of $22 which includes a one-year membership, unit charter fee, and a one year’s subscription to Boys Life magazine.

Troop Dues:  Besides annual registration fees, each boy is responsible for yearly dues of $25.  These are generally due in September of each year or upon initial registration. Also, each boy is responsible for a $22 rechartering fee, due in December.

Physical Exam:  A current physical exam is required for some of our Troop activities, primarily summer camp. Both boys and adults require a physical exam every year.
